Just as the New York Fashion Week shows wind down, we get a chance to see the trends distilled from last fall's runways for spring-summer 2010.

It's not an easy task to wrap one's head around the 80-plus shows top merchandisers attend, and from the many disparate collections and ideas presented, figure out exactly what people will want to wear months later.

At Neiman Marcus' Trend Event today through Sunday, get a first peek at interpretation for spring, through these key trends. Those who spend $350 or more on regular-priced women's apparel, accessories or jewelry will receive an Ippolita necklace, one per customer, during the event.

» Blue: Relaxing, vibrant turquoise is being celebrated as the color of the year, but all forms of blue will be in demand this season, from soft pastels to deep navy, as colors representing open ocean, sky and a sense of escape from the ordinary.

» Feminine draping: Soft, flattering tucks and folds celebrate the goddess in every woman.

» Arm candy: Where one or two bangles once would have sufficed, the new way to wear bracelets is to layer multiple bangles and cuffs in many sizes, styles and materials.

; » Denim: Beyond jeans, denim separates and accessories are coming into play.

» Tribal: Multicultural exposure is being expressed in prints, fabric embellishments and bold jewelry.

» Relaxed pants: If draping is the key word in dresses, pants also aim for softness in voluminous silhouettes and fluid fabrics.

» The wedge: New fluid shapes in apparel call for a shoe with a sense of ease and casualness, a perfect season to bring back the wedge. Elsewhere, shoes are in nude, natural colors to suit any wardrobe color.

» Novel tees: Teens have worn these for ages; the big kids are catching on to their bold, whimsical play of graphics and splashes of color.

» Shorts: Sassy and sexy, shorts get feminized with a dash of metallics and details such as cuffs, pleats and waistbands that gather and tie.

» White shirts: Clean and crisp, the basic white shirt goes anywhere, communicating an attitude of innocence or sophistication, depending on your mood. Different styles will work as an impromptu beach cover-up, as part of an elegant evening ensemble or go to work with you.
