Essay contest offers friends free weddings at hotel

In light of Frommer's recently listing Hawaii as one of the Top Destinations for 2010, the Hilton Waikoloa Village Resort Hawaii is offering two dream weddings for BFFs whose weddings happen to coincide on or around Valentine's Day 2011.

The “;I Do Times Two”; essay contest calls for individuals to share why their BFF (best friend forever) should also be their BBF (best bride forever).

A panel of Hilton Worldwide judges will review all submissions and choose one story winner, based on uniqueness, sincerity and impact of the relationship between the two brides.

Entries are due by Feb. 22, with the winning entries to be announced on or around March 2. The grand prize-winning bride will receive a free Hilton Waikoloa Village wedding package for herself and her best bride between Jan. 1 and March 31, 2011, including round-trip airfare for both couples to the Big Island, two ocean-view wedding ceremonies, deluxe ocean-view accommodations and complimentary room-blocks of up to 15 room nights for each wedding party.

NFL Day at water park features players, dunk tank

Wet 'N Wild Hawaii will have more than 20 football players on hand for NFL Day from noon to 2 p.m. tomorrow. The players will interact with water park customers at various events including an autograph signing party with Chris Kemoeatu, Ma'aka Kemoeatu and other NFL stars. Players will also participate in a dunk tank to raise money for the Kemoeatu Brothers Foundation.

Event highlights include sports competitions, sports-themed carnival games and a pie-eating contest. Festivities kick off with a performance by the U.S. Air Force Band of the Pacific at 10:30 a.m.

Isle design firm lauded for logo

Hawaii design firm Goodson+Yu Design was the sole firm in the state to receive an Award of Excellence at the American Graphic Design Awards national competition late last year.

Goodson+Yu took top honors in the logo category with for a new design for the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, beating 8,000 other entries.

The logo consists of two shapes symbolizing the sails of early Hawaiian voyaging canoes which, when placed together, form a calabash shape. Red and yellow colors signify feather cloaks worn by ali'i.

The awards recognizes print, internet and interactive work.

 

Discover art of yoga

Artwork surely feeds the soul, and now, The Contemporary Museum at Makiki Heights will be a place to promote a healthy body as well.

Teaming up with lululemon athletica, the museum is presenting “;The Art of Yoga,”; a vinyasa flow yoga class, 2 p.m. Tuesday and March 16, on the expansive Nu'umealani lawns.

Donation benefits performing arts

Hawaii Arts Alliance received a $110,000 gift for high school Performing Arts Learning Centers.

Recipients of the funds include centers at Castle, Baldwin, Hilo, Kaimuki, Nanakuli High and Intermediate, Central Theatre Arts Academy and the Alliance for Drama Education's T-Shirt Theatre at Farrington.
