Hawaii associate women's volleyball coach Mike Sealy has emerged as the leading candidate for the head coaching job at his alma mater, UCLA.

The school expects to make the decision within the week to replace Andy Banachowski, who announced his retirement last month after 43 seasons.

Sealy joined Dave Shoji's staff in 2006 after spending four years at UCLA, where he was an assistant on the men's team. Sealy, who turned down the top job at Loyola Marymount in December, also spent the 2005 season on Banachowski's staff.

A three-time All-America honoree as a setter for the Bruins (1990-93), Sealy was the 1993 national player of the year. As a senior, he led UCLA (24-3) to its 14th NCAA title and was named the co-most outstanding player of the final four, setting the UCLA offense to an NCAA-record .420 hitting percentage.
