Hawaii Common Cause has delivered hundreds of petition signatures to the state's congressional delegation asking them to back legislation that would overturn a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on campaign contributions.

Last week's decision allows corporations and labor unions to use their own funds to mount independent campaigns for or against candidates.

However, corporations and unions still cannot directly contribute to federal candidates.

The group delivered the petitions Thursday to the Hawaii offices of U.S. Sens. Daniel Akaka and Daniel Inouye, and U.S. Reps. Neil Abercrombie and Mazie Hirono. All are Democrats.

The group says Abercrombie and Hirono already support the Fair Elections Now Act, but the two senators have not signed on.
