National recognition for Amemiya

;

The National Federation of State High School Associations will present a citation to Keith Amemiya in July at its annual summer conference in California. Amemiya, the outgoing executive director of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association, is in his 11th year at the helm.

He steps into his new job with the University of Hawaii's Board of Regents by March.

Prepsters sign letters today

A majority of the state's top high school football prospects will sign letters of intent this morning at the Sheraton Waikiki.

Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance, which has organized letter-of-intent press conferences for nearly a decade, expects about 75 signees by the 7 a.m. start time. That's the earliest time student-athletes can sign and deliver their letters.

Shaydon Akuna (Kapolei), V.J. Fehoko (Farrington) and Jeremy Ioane (Punahou) will announce their college choices at the event.

The signees include female volleyball players.
