Check out emcee competition at Lotus

Local hip-hop radio program “;The Got Rice? Show”; and Funky4Corners Productions are setting up shop at Lotus Soundbar in Waikiki for the “;Rivals Emcee Battle,”; featuring a $500 cash grand prize.

Tonight marks the first preliminary round in the competition, with entrants getting 30 seconds each to prove why they should move on to the semifinal round on Feb. 12. Local hip-hop heavyweight Big Mox will preside over the action, with DJs Revise, Antikks, UNE and friends on the decks.

Experience Latin heat at Paparazzi event

Honolulu's “;newest Latin night experience”; kicks off next week at Paparazzi Nightclub inside Ward Centre.

“;Tumbao Caliente”; is a 21-and-over weekly event that will feature a variety of salsa, merengue, bachata, reggaeton, cumbias and Latin house with top 40 hits and mashups thrown into the mix by DJs Rod Moreno and Da Lion of Judah. In the coming weeks, promoters promise Latin dance showcases and opportunities to learn basic dance moves with local Latin group Beauty in Motion.

In addition to discounted cover before 11 p.m. each week, all industry workers with a valid Honolulu Liquor Commission card will be allowed free admission.
