Coast Guard saves man with eye injury on boat

The Coast Guard rescued a 34-year-old man with an eye injury aboard a vehicle transport vessel about 100 miles west of Kauai yesterday.

On Wednesday the Coast Guard received a call for help from the Republic of Panama vessel Ryujin after the man injured his eye while cutting metal piping aboard the ship, the Coast Guard.

At 6 a.m. yesterday a Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules aircraft took off from Air Station Barbers Point to find the vessel.

A Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew hoisted the man aboard at about 9 a.m. in stable condition, said Petty Officer 3rd Class Anthony L. Soto.

The rescue crew dropped off the man at Lihue Airport, and he was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital.

Teen girl allegedly raped in child day-care home

Police opened a first-degree sexual assault case Wednesday in the alleged attack of a 13-year-old girl at about 9 a.m. Dec. 30 by a 61-year-old man in a Honolulu home used for child day care.

The man was identified but has not yet been arrested.

Police are continuing to investigate the matter, a department spokeswoman said.

Police would not say whether the man provided the child care or if he lived at the home.

Overturned truck closes onramp traffic

Police closed the Koko Head-bound onramp to the Moanalua Freeway in Aiea yesterday afternoon after a cement truck overturned.

The accident occurred at about 1 p.m., forcing officers to close the onramp as the wreckage was removed. Hawaiian Cement workers pumped cement from the vehicle and righted and moved it.

Police reopened the onramp at about 3 p.m. Police said the driver was not seriously hurt.

Teen accused of using stolen credit card

Police arrested a 19-year-old man yesterday who allegedly used a stolen credit card at an automated teller machine in Waikiki.

Police said a Waikiki man's wallet had been taken from his apartment while he was asleep at 2:06 a.m. May 30.

When the victim canceled his credit card, he discovered that money had been withdrawn at an ATM in Waikiki, police said.

The surveillance video showed the suspect withdrawing cash using the victim's credit card, police said.

The suspect was identified and arrested for third-degree identity theft, unauthorized possession of personal and confidential information, fraudulent use of a credit card and third-degree theft.
