Hawaii Pacific athletic director Darren Vorderbruegge has been selected to succeed Tony Sellitto as the Sea Warriors' men's basketball coach following the current season, school president Chatt Wright announced yesterday.

Vorderbruegge will remain HPU's athletic director when he returns to coaching after Sellitto's retirement goes into effect March 6.

Vorderbrugge was originally hired to coach the Sea Warriors in 2006. He led them to a 10-17 record in the 2006-07 season and was promoted to athletic director later that year. Sellitto, who coached HPU from 1988 to 2002, returned to the bench in 2008.

“;My previous service as the head coach at HPU, along with my recent experience in administration, has prepared me to lead this basketball program,”; Vorderbruegge said. “;Everyone at HPU is grateful to Coach Sellitto for helping turn the tide of men's basketball at HPU these past few years and for setting the foundation for HPU's return to prominence on the local and national basketball scene.”;

Vorderbrugge named Darrell Matsui and Sky Wilson as his assistant coaches.
