The Western Athletic Conference road remains unkind to the Hawaii women's basketball team.

New Mexico State used a dominating first half to coast to a 73-51 win over the Rainbow Wahine last night at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, N.M.

UH (6-9, 0-2 WAC) committed 18 turnovers and trailed 42-20 at halftime. The Wahine return for a three-game homestand starting Wednesday against Idaho.

“;Well it was just like deja vu a couple nights earlier against Fresno (a 83-42 loss),”; UH coach Dana Takahara-Dias said. “;We had a very hard time adjusting to their offense ... they went on runs that we couldn't stop. On a positive note, we came back in the second half, worked hard as a team and played them even.”;

Keisha Kanekoa led the Wahine with nine points and four assists.

Jasmine Lowe had 17 points and Madison Spence 15 (including 5-for-8 on 3-pointers) for the Aggies (12-4, 2-0), who shot 13-for-29 (44.8 percent) from long range.

UH names Funaki football GA

Inoke Funaki is spending the weekend in Florida as one of 30 student-athletes attending the NCAA Football Coaches Academy.

The former Hawaii quarterback/running back will have a chance to put those lessons into practice this season as a graduate assistant with the Warriors.

“;He was a great player in our program and consistently earned a 4.0 grade-point average,”; UH head coach Greg McMackin said. “;He is a great example to our players both academically and athletically.”;

Funaki started six games at QB as a junior in 2008 and earned his degree that fall. He moved to running back and played on special teams this past season.
