Palmer gets Gatorade honor

HBA senior outside hitter Sarah Palmer was named the 2009-10 Gatorade Hawaii Volleyball Player of the Year yesterday, the second straight time she's received the honor.

Palmer led the Eagles to their third straight Division II state title last season and collected tournament Most Outstanding Player recognition each time.

Academics also factors into the award; Palmer has a 3.48 cumulative grade-point average and is bound for the University of Texas next fall.

Chaminade ends 54-game skid

The Chaminade women's basketball team ended a 54-game losing streak with a 53-52 win over BYUH on Tuesday night.

The Silverswords (1-2) went 0-27 last year and 0-25 in 2007-08.

BYUH dropped to 3-4.
