The Korean American Foundation Hawaii selected Kelsey McCoy, a graduate of Kaiser High School to receive its 2009 Merit Award. She has a superior academic record, and was active in her school's music program and community service clubs. She is attending the University of Oregon.

Sarah Tamashiro, a 10th grader at St. Andrew's Priory, was one of 27 worldwide Peace Ambassadors at the 21st annual Asian-Pacific Children's Convention in Fukuoka, Japan.

Nicki Foster of Kailua was honored by Rotary Club of Windward Oahu for her support and service to the club as a non-member.
