Hayashi-Taketa win

The team of Kevin Hayashi and Lance Taketa won the Aloha Section E-Z-GO/Golf Concepts Facility Team Championship yesterday.

They shot a two-day total of 15-under 129 to win by three shots. The tournament was held at Hualalai Golf Club on the Big Island.

SMU officially Hawaii-bound

DALLAS » Between towers of red and blue balloons, underneath banners boasting “;Howdy Hawaii!”; and “;Aloha SMU!”; a round table was set aside yesterday to show off a fancy invitation in a wooden frame.

It was for a spot in the Hawaii Bowl and it was personalized to SMU.

The Mustangs (7-5) and coach June Jones are headed to Honolulu for their first bowl appearance in 25 years.

HPU signs 2

Hawaii Pacific yesterday announced the signing of two women's basketball players.

Tessondra Williams is a 5-foot-5 junior guard coming to the Sea Warriors from Pierce College in Los Angeles.

Also, 5-foot-10 Skye Savini joins HPU as a true freshman from Saint Paul High School, also in Los Angeles.

The Brigham Young-Hawaii basketball team is still No. 1 in the NABC Division II poll released yesterday.

The Seasiders (2-0) received all eight first-place votes.
