Whole Foods Market in Kahala Mall offers a variety of events throughout the month:

» All day Friday: Free “;scavenger hunt”; specifically targeted to students affected by Furlough Friday

» 1 p.m. Saturday: Free store tour on how to shop on a budget (repeats Dec. 12 and 19)

» Noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 13: Sample all-natural and organic turkeys and favorite seasonal side dishes

» 3 p.m. Dec. 16: Learn to shop for foods with high nutritional value

Learn about food and tea at library

Learn how to adopt healthy habits to enhance your life, starting with a cooking class at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Aina Haina Public Library.

“;Cooking with Natural Foods,”; a two-hour program by Naomi Homma and Karen Takane from the Mokichi Okada Association-Hawaii, will include how-to demonstrations on healthy cooking and the Japanese tea ceremony, followed by samplings of food and tea.

Hearty meal paired with wine

Brasserie Du Vin will serve up “;Hearty Winter Fare”; Monday evening as part of its weekly three-course wine dinners.

The menu will feature a Salad of Braised Beef Tongue with Tomato Confit and Sherry Mustard Vinaigrette (paired with a Famege Vihno Verde, Portugal 2008), Grilled Sweetbreads, Sweet Corn Coulis, Pommes Gaufrette (Alamos Torrontes, Argentina, 2008) and Braised Oxtail on Winter Root Vegetables (Michele Chiarlo Barbera d'Asti, Italy, 2006).

Cost is $49, and seating starts at 7 p.m. Reservations are recommended.

Vino features Napa wines

Vintner Donald Patz from Patz & Hall, one of the top wineries in Napa Valley, Calif., will be making a special visit to Vino Italian Tapas & Wine Bar to lead a tasting.

Top wines to be sampled will be the new 2008 Chardonnay “;Sonoma Coast,”; a 2007 Chardonnay “;Napa Valley,”; 2006 Chardonnay “;Dutton Ranch,”; 2007 Pinot Noir “;Sonoma Coast”; and 2005 Pinot Noir “;Pisoni Vineyard.”;
