1. Rare breakdown

The Situation:
Hawaii 7, Navy 0, last play of first quarter, Navy ball, first and 10 at Navy 47

The Play:
QB Ricky Dobbs keeps on the option and breaks away for a 53-yard touchdown.

The Impact:
Dobbs tied Tim Tebow's single-season NCAA record of 23 rushing touchdowns by a quarterback. The Hawaii defense had been nearly flawless to this point, with three consecutive three and outs and an average yield of 2.7 yards on first down. Hawaii had just taken the lead three plays earlier on QB Bryant Moniz's 24-yard pass to WR Kealoha Pilares.

hawaii coach Greg McMackin:
“;We only had two (defensive) breakdowns.”;

2. Taylor made

The Situation:
Navy 17, Hawaii 10, 1:07 remaining, second quarter, Navy kicking off from Navy 30

The Play:
KR Jovonte Taylor drops the kick, but picks it up and finds a seam on the left to go 55 yards to the Navy 44.

The Impact:
QB Bryant Moniz completes five of six passes, including a 7-yard touchdown to Pilares, tying the game with 6 seconds left in the half.

Taylor:
“;I took my eyes off it for a quick second, that's why I muffed it. But I picked it up, made something out of nothing. I reversed field, and hey, I was out the gate. It was a big play for us, in a critical situation at that.”;

3. Key decision

The Situation:
Hawaii 24, Navy 17, 5:48 remaining, fourth quarter, Hawaii ball, fourth and 1 at Navy 16

The Play:
McMackin chooses to go for the first down instead of attempting a 33-yard field goal. RB Alex Green is stopped for no gain up the middle by NG Jordan Stephens.

The Impact:
Navy takes over on downs at its 16 behind seven points with 5:41 left.

McMackin:
“;I believed in two things. I believed in our offense that they could get that and I believed our defense was playing well against their offense so I thought we could get after them.”;

4. 12th man

The Situation:
Hawaii 24, Navy 17, 5:41 remaining, fourth quarter, Navy ball, first and 10 at Navy 16

The Play:
Navy uses its final timeout before running a play on its final drive, with the clock already stopped.

The Impact:
Hawaii's largest crowd of the season played a significant factor in the game, disrupting Navy's offensive calls and pumping up the Hawaii defense.

Dobbs:
“;It was real tough. Guys couldn't hear me. I was quite surprised.”;

5. Mission accomplished

The Situation:
Hawaii 24, Navy 17, around 1:00 remaining, fourth quarter, Navy ball, first and 10 at Hawaii 39

The Play:
CB Jeramy Bryant makes his only tackle of the game, stopping SB Marcus Curry for a loss of 2 yards.

The Impact:
With time and downs running out, Navy is forced away from its strength. Dobbs is stopped for a 1-yard gain on second down, and is then sacked on third and fourth by LBs R.J. Kiesel-Kauhane and Blaze Soares to end the game.

Soares:
“;It's just trust in one another. Certain people had to take the dive, other people had to take the quarterback and the pitch man. We trusted in one another to do that. We were very responsible. It cracked here and there, but overall everybody just did their job.”;
