Taser used to overcome mixed-martial arts fighter

; Kauai police used a Taser to subdue a mixed-martial arts fighter and arrested him for drunken driving and threatening officers Friday morning in Lihue, the county said.

LeBeau Lagmay, 26, of Kapaa, is expected to appear in court today after he was charged Friday with 14 counts of terroristic threatening, resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle, drunken driving and driving with an open container. He was being held on $147,000 bail.

Officers tried to stop Lagmay after seeing him “;burning rubber”; as he drove away from a Lihue 7-Eleven about 3:30 a.m., police said.

Officers pursued Lagmay's vehicle and stopped him at the Wilcox Hospital parking lot, police said. Lagmay resisted arrest and threatened the officers, the release said.

 

Sex offender, 68, charged in assault of 5-year-old girl

; A 68-year-old convicted sex offender has been charged with sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl in Kalihi.

Police said Tutau Nuusila assaulted the girl at her home sometime between Nov. 10 and 12 . He was arrested about 2:15 p.m. Thursday at Kapiolani Park.

Nuusila was charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault and two counts of third-degree sexual assault. He was being held on $150,000 bail.

 

Big Isle firefighters attempt to put out blaze in Pahala

Hawaii island firefighters continued to fight a blaze in a vacant lot in Pahala yesterday.

The fire started about 1:10 p.m. Saturday near 94-2058 South Point Road. The one-acre fire burned a lot filled with construction and building materials, according to a news release.

A volunteer built fire breaks with a bulldozer, and firefighters worked through the night to keep the fire contained. Firefighters were hampered by thick brush around the area.

 

Teenager reports assault; Ewa man, 52, is arrested

An Ewa man was charged during the weekend with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in Ewa Beach, police said.

Samuel L. Miner, 52, faces a third-degree sexual assault charge after the girl reported he improperly touched her on Friday. His bail was set at $50,000.

 

Man beaten, robbed in Volcano subdivision

Big Island police are looking for several masked men who bound and beat a 77-year-old man in a home invasion robbery in the Volcano Golf and Country Club subdivision.

Police said the victim reported two to three men overpowered him and demanded money at his Pukeawe Circle home Thursday evening. They left with an undisclosed amount of cash and other belongings, police said.

Police described the suspects as in their teens to late 20s. One was about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds with a slim build.

Man charged in burglary at Kau house

; A 34-year-old man who was shot after he attacked another man in his home is scheduled to appear in court on the Big Island today.

Richard Justin McNeely was charged Friday with burglary, unauthorized entry into a dwelling and terroristic threatening after being treated and released from the hospital. His bail was set at $10,300.

Police said McNeely climbed through a living room window to enter a 45-year-old man's Kau home at about 10 p.m. Thursday and punched the victim several times. McNeely left, but when he tried to come back in through the front door, the resident fired two shots, hitting him once in the upper left thigh.

Police also arrested the homeowner, but released him Friday pending further investigation.
