6 entrepreneurs earn Hawaii Venture Capital Association honors

The Hawaii Venture Capital Association marked Global Entrepreneurship Week with its second annual Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

The group honored six executives in as many categories Wednesday evening at the Plaza Club who take on “;entrepreneurial ventures, create meaningful jobs and contribute to improving and diversifying our economy,”; Bill Spencer, HVCA president, said.

Honorees were:

» Dan Leuck, founder of interactive design agency Ikayzo, as Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

» Mark Duda, a founding member of renewable energy firm Distributed Energy Partners, as Clean Tech Entrepreneur.

» Filmmaker Jeanette Hereniko, president of Asia Pacific Films, for Digital Media entrepreneurship.

» Biotechnologist Heidi Kuehnle, co-founder of Kuehnle AgroSystems Inc., was the Invention Award winner.

» David Fisher of Maui Venture Consulting, won the Entrepreneurship Advocate award.

» The Social Entrepreneur Award was presented to Henk Rogers, most commonly cited for popularizing the game “;Tetris”; around the world. He was honored for his work as founder of the Blue Planet Foundation, which works to expand renewable energy use in Hawaii and elsewhere.
