Isle woman gets national investor post

State Securities Commissioner Tung Chan has been named chairwoman of the Investor Education Section of the North American Securities Administrators Association by NASAA's board of directors.

Chan's task will be to advance investor education programs for the association's membership, consisting of securities regulators in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Mexico.

The association has reached more than 250,000 through such education programs so far this year, more than other organizations, Chan said in a statement.

“;Being part of that effort, while also representing Hawaii, is a great honor and challenge,”; she said.

It is a critical time to educate main street investors on securities fraud and prevention, “;as part of the way forward for rebuilding confidence in our capital markets and ultimately for our economy.”;
