Resort to host weekend of slack key

LIHUE » The Hilton Kauai Beach Resort will host the 2009 Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival and CD release party Nov. 14 and 15 and offer a kamaaina room special for music fans.

The weekend schedule includes:

» Nov. 14—CD release party for Walter Keale's latest CD “;Kawelona (Ride the Sun),”; 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at the resort's Shutters Lounge.

» Nov. 15—27th Annual Ki hoalu 2009 Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival “;Kauai Style,”; noon-5 p.m. at the resort's Jasmine Ballroom. Donations of $5 will be taken at the door to benefit the Ki hoalu Foundation, a nonprofit organization that was formed in 2002 to generate national interest in slack-key as an art form.

The festival features slack key artists and bands, including Sandy and Doug McMaster, Norman Kaawa Solomon, Ken Makuakane, Kawika Kahiapo, Stephen Inglis, Paul Togioka, Bobby Moderow, Donald Kaulia, Keale, LT Smooth, Jeff Peterson, John Cruz and Makana.
