Use caution when dressing pet for Halloween

Question: Halloween is coming. Are there any guidelines from the Hawaiian Humane Society about pet costumes?

Answer: A cute costume doesn't always mean comfortable. First, ensure when out and about with your dog that he's always leashed and that you pick up and dispose of pet waste. Make sure the costume is not too tight or too heavy and that there are no loose ends or buttons that can be chewed or swallowed or obstruct natural walking. Dogs are highly susceptible to overheating so ensure that costumes are only worn for short periods and pets always have access to shade and water. If it's an evening event, ensure your pet is visible to drivers.
