BYUH ranked No. 1 in Division II

Brigham Young-Hawaii received six first-place votes to earn the No. 1 ranking in the NABC Division II coaches men's basketball poll yesterday.

The Seasiders went to the West Region final a year ago and lost by a point to eventual national runner-up Cal Poly Pomona.

 

Bartels wins heat in Portugal

Hawaii's Melanie Bartels won her first-round heat yesterday in the Rip Curl Pro Women's Search surf event at Supertubos in Portugal.

Bartels advanced all the way to the third round with the victory.

Hawaii's Megan Abubo, who placed third in her heat yesterday, will surf in the second round of the ASP Women's World Tour event today, surf permitting.

 

Kua places fourth at Kauai tourney

Hawaii's T.J. Kua shot a 1-under 71 yesterday for a three-round total of 7-under 209 to finish in fifth place at the Kauai Collegiate Invitational at Puakea Golf Course.

Kua was four strokes behind individual winner Joseph Harrison of San Diego.

The Warriors finished fourth as a team, 40 strokes behind first-place San Diego.

 

Chaminade tops Academy of Art

Keenan Ho scored twice on assists from Jensen Takiguchi to lead Chaminade past Academy of Art 2-0 in men's soccer yesterday in Honolulu.

» In women's soccer in Honolulu, Aubrey Williams scored the lone goal to lead Academy of Art past Chaminade.
