Award for UH's Ako

Hawaii's Ambree Ako was named the WAC offensive player of the week yesterday.

Last week, the senior forward scored Hawaii's only goal in a loss to Nevada and scored the game-winner against Utah State.

 

UH men tied for third

Hawaii's T.J. Kua finished the first round of the Kauai Collegiate Invitational at Puakea Golf Course tied for first place at 5-under 67.

UH's Jared Sawada is tied for 13th.

The Hawaii men's team is tied for third place with Loyola Marymount. San Diego is in first place, followed by James Madison.

 

UH sailors place

The Hawaii women's sailing team placed second and third in the fleet and team divisions at the Bryson Women's Intersectional last weekend.

The Wahine fell one point short of tying regatta champ and host Stanford in the fleet division on Saturday.

In the head-to-head team competition on Sunday, UH beat out five teams to place third.

UHH moves up in volleyball poll

Hawaii-Hilo (22-1) moved up a spot in yesterday's AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 volleyball poll, sharing 16th with Southwest Minnesota State (19-7).

The Vulcans (22-1, 12-1 PacWest) can clinch the conference title with victories this week at Chaminade on Friday and at Brigham Young-Hawaii on Saturday.

 

BYUH defeats Academy of Art

The Brigham-Young Hawaii men's soccer team defeated Academy of Art 3-2 in overtime yesterday at Laie.

Sam Akinaka scored the winning goal for the Seasiders.

» Hawaii-Hilo scored two goals for a come-from-behind, 2-1 men's soccer win over Grand Canyon at Hilo.

In the 24th minute, UHH's Vincent Muscarella scored on a penalty kick to tie it 1-1. Twelve minutes, later George Ichimaru scored the winning goal.

» Notre Dame De Namur defeated Hawaii Pacific 2-0 in women's soccer at Kaneohe.

Margo Resteiro and K.C. O'Shea scored the goals for the Argonauts.

» Grand Canyon pulled away for a 4-3 double-overtime victory over Hawaii-Hilo in women's soccer in Hilo.

In the 114th minute in the second overtime, Kayla Poe scored the game-winner.

» Host Brigham Young-Hawaii blanked Academy of Art 3-0, denying the Urban Knights a single shot on goal.

Rachel Johnson, Kim Herrera and Margaret Sekona were the Seasiders' goal scorers.

» The Hawaii Pacific men's soccer team defeated Notre Dame de Namur 2-1 at Kaneohe.

Alan Albertazzi scored the winning goal for the Sea Warriors.

 

Vorderbruegge makes hall

Hawaii Pacific men's golf coach and athletic director Darren Vorderbruegge will enter the Northwest Missouri State M Club Hall of Fame in its annual induction ceremony on Oct. 23.

Vorderbruegge served as an assistant coach to the 2001-02 Northwest Missouri State men's basketball team, which will be inducted in the 2009 class. The team won the regional championship and advanced to the NCAA Division II elite eight, finishing with a 29-3 record.
