Traffic alert on 2 Makaha bridges

Traffic on two bridges along Farrington Highway in Makaha has been reduced to one lane in both directions because of structural damage.

An inspection last week found damage to bridges 3 and 3a near Kili Drive, the state Transportation Department said.

Temporary repairs were made, and work on permanent repairs begins Monday, officials said.

Motorists are advised that the lane closures will be in effect 24/7 until the repairs are completed, which is expected to be by early December.

Officials are using electronic message boards around the construction area and flagmen to direct traffic.

New city Web site for people laid off

The city launched a new Web site to assist job-seekers affected by layoffs.

Information on training opportunities, tuition assistance programs and unemployment insurance can be found at http://www.owib.org. The Web site also provides information for employers on work force development, where to advertise jobs on the Internet and sustainability.

Links to resources such as webinars and conference notices about economic development issues also are available.
