Maui man, 21, injured when cycle hits car

A 21-year-old Kihei, Maui, man suffered life-threatening injuries when the motorcycle he was driving hit the rear of a Honda Civic in Kahului, Maui police said.

The man was heading south on Mokulele Highway Wednesday night when his motorcycle struck the Honda, went out of control and slid on the roadway, police said.

The Honda also went out of control, traveled onto the grass median, overturned and stopped facing the opposite direction, police said.

The motorcyclist was taken to the Maui Memorial Medical Center. The Honda driver was also taken to Maui Memorial for observation.

Police said the accident may have involved speeding.

Pensacola Street store struck by 2 robbers

A 46-year-old Kalihi man has been arrested while a second remains at large in the robbery of two elderly women at a Pensacola Street retail store Wednesday, police said.

Police said two men went into the store at about 11:10 a.m., and the 46-year-old started talking with a 71-year-old woman about an item for sale, police said.

The second man, who is described as in his 40s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 160 pounds, with black hair, began talking to the same woman about buying another item, police said, then hit her on the back of the head with a weapon and tied her with tape.

The other man assaulted another woman, 70, and stole jewelry from her, police said. The two men fled, but the 46-year-old was caught and arrested 3 1/2 hours later on suspicion of second-degree robbery.

Second man arrested in Waikiki hotel robbery

Police have charged a second man in the burglary of a Waikiki hotel room and the robbery of a 45-year-old man who was staying there.

Jessie Momoisea, 23, of Kalihi was arrested Tuesday and charged Wednesday with second-degree robbery and first-degree burglary. His bail was set at $75,000.

Police said Momoisea and Joe Lee Wrightsman, 22, a Kaneohe Marine with the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, entered the victim's hotel room at 6 a.m. Monday at the Ohana Waikiki East, used force against him and stole his wallet and fled. Wrightsman was arrested at 6:35 a.m. Monday at 150 Kaiulani Ave. and later charged with second-degree robbery and first-degree burglary.
