Clay to hold clinic for kids

Olympic decathlon gold medalist Bryan Clay and Straub Clinic and Hospital will host the KidFit Klinic on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University of Hawaii's Ching Athletic Complex.

Applications are still being accepted and walk-ins are welcome, according to organizers.

Alves is preseason D-II hoops All-American

Brigham Young-Hawaii senior forward Lucas Alves has been picked as a preseason Super 16 Division II Bulletin All-American.

Alves, who is recovering from a torn ACL, was the Daktronics NCAA II national player of the year last season. He averaged 19.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

The Seasiders open with an exhibition game against Hawaii on Nov. 5 at the Stan Sheriff Center.

 

NDNU defeats Chaminade in soccer

Notre Dame de Namur topped Chaminade 3-1 in a women's soccer game yesterday at Belmont, Calif.

Haley Miller scored the lone goal for the Silverswords (0-10, 0-7 PacWest) and goalkeeper Marissa Minor made 11 saves.

The Argonauts improved to 5-7 and 5-3.

» George Ichamaru scored in overtime to lead Hawaii-Hilo to a 2-1 victory over Dominican in men's soccer yesterday at San Rafael, Calif.

Vincent Muscarella also scored for the Vulcans (6-7, 5-2 PacWest).

The Penguins dropped to 5-7-1 and 2-4-1.

» Hawaii-Hilo and Dominican tied 1-1 in women's soccer yesterday at San Rafael, Calif.

Neither team scored in two overtimes.

Jessica Snell scored the only goal for the Vulcans (3-7-3, 2-3-2), and Bridget Folan scored for the Penguins (4-6-3, 2-3-2 PacWest).

 

Hawaii-Hilo sweeps NDNU in volleyball

Kawena Cubi-Otineru had 10 kills to lead Hawaii-Hilo past Notre Dame de Namur, 25-14, 25-13, 25-23 in women's volleyball last night in Hilo.

The Vulcans improved to 19-1 overall and 9-1 in the PacWest.

The Argonauts dropped to 8-15 and 5-4.

» Hawaii Pacific got 18 kills from Kelly Balanay, 11 from Mariana Souza and 10 from Julia Gruszecka in a 25-16, 25-22, 25-20 sweep of Grand Canyon (Ariz.) last night.

The Sea Warriors evened their record at 9-9 overall and improved to 6-3 in the PacWest.

Megan Toth put down 11 kills for the Antelopes (12-8, 2-6).
