Danielson wins WAC award

Hawaii sophomore hitter Kanani Danielson was named the Western Athletic Conference player of the week yesterday. It is the second time she has won the award this season.

Danielson had a combined 34 kills, 19 digs and seven blocks en route to being named the most outstanding player in last week's Honolulu Advertiser Volleyball Challenge. She had 13 kills and hit .455 in the 3-0 sweep of Stanford in the title match.

Hawaii moved up two spots to No. 4 in the latest AVCA Coaches Top 25. The Rainbow Wahine return to the Stan Sheriff Center to play 25th-ranked Pepperdine on Friday and Saturday.

These are the final nonconference matches for a while as Hawaii prepares for the Western Athletic Conference chase. Hawaii opens at home against Boise State on Sept. 24 and Idaho on Sept. 26.
