Wie on fringe in Arkansas

Honolulu's Michelle Wie shot a 1-under 70 yesterday to drop to 3-under 139 at the P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Championship in Rogers, Ark.

The Punahou School graduate begins today's final round of this LPGA Tour event tied for 15th, some six shots off the pace set by second-round leader Song Hee Kim (68). Wie carded three bogeys, including one at the par-5 second, and four birdies. Like yesterday, she finished her round with a birdie at the last.

For the tournament, Wie has hit 15 of 28 fairways and managed 28 of 36 greens in regulation. She is averaging 265.75 yards off the tee and needed 63 putts.

Hawaii Pacific to tourney title

Hawaii Pacific topped host Hawaii-Hilo 1-0 in the Hawaii Collegiate Challenge Cup men's soccer tournament final on Chance Bukoski's goal in the 86th minute.

The Sea Warriors improved to 3-0, and the Vulcans dropped to 1-5.

“;It was a great win for the guys,”; HPU coach Scott Liedtke said. “;They worked hard this weekend, and you could tell this was something they all wanted to accomplish.”;

» Chris Wood scored three goals to lead Brigham Young-Hawaii to a 5-3 men's soccer victory over Chaminade in the Hawaii Collegiate Challenge Cup tournament yesterday in Hilo.

Sam Akinaka had two goals for the Seasiders.

Austin Maher, Jonathan Fukumoto and Nicholas Botelho scored for the Silverswords.

 

Anchorage trips Chaminade

Alaska Anchorage defeated Chaminade 26-24, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21 yesterday in women's volleyball at McCabe Gym.

Cortney Lundberg led the Sea Wolves (7-4) with 17 kills.

Courtney Lorusso had a double-double for the Silverswords (1-8) with 11 kills and 15 digs.

» Alaska Fairbanks beat Brigham Young-Hawaii 23-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-18 last night in Laie.

Megan Thigpen led the Nanooks with 25 kills. Hanna Wilkinson and Tanza Buroker led the Seasiders with nine kills each.
