Former Hawaii football player Kent Kafentzis got news yesterday that indicates he is winning his battle against cancer.

Kafentzis, a first-team All-WAC defensive back in 1985 and one of eight family members to letter for UH, underwent surgery to remove cancerous tissue last month. His brother, Kurt, also a former UH player, said Kent got encouraging news yesterday.

“;The PET scan showed no signs of cancer in the lungs and he will just have to have CT scans every few months throughout his life,”; Kurt wrote in an e-mail. “;That is great news and I'm am so excited and thankful for all the prayers and well wishes from friends, family and the islands. Hawaii is a big part of the Kafentzis family and we actually call Hawaii home.”;
