'Hoku — One Ocean, One People'

Keli'i Tau'a and David Kauahikaua
(Tiki)

Hawaiian songwriter and recording artist Keli'i Tau'a took the lead in celebrating the voyages of the Hokule'a in the '70s. Now he and David Kauahikaua build on their landmark “;Cloud Warriors”; album with 16 new songs commemorating Hokule'a's voyage through Micronesia to Japan in 2007. They include songs about master navigator Mau Piailug, traditional tools and navigational aids, a pre-missionary Hawaiian deity, and several people who were involved in some way with the voyage to Japan.

Kauahikaua has great credentials as the keyboard wizard who backs Frank De Lima and partners with Roslyn Catracchia. His multi-instrumental work here again defines him and Tau'a as innovators in setting Hawaiian lyrics to mainstream pop and light rock arrangements.
