Hawaii Golfers in fifth place

A team of Hawaii golfers is tied for fifth going into today's second round of the USGA Women's State Team Championship at Fort Wayne, Ind.

Hawaii's Cyd Okino (75) and Xyra Suyetsugu (76) combined for a 7-over 151 at the par-72 Sycamore Hills Golf Club.

Kacie Komoto (80) is also on the Hawaii team, but didn't figure in the first-round scoring.

Hawaii trails first-round leader Georgia (143) by eight.

All 50 states are represented.

Georgia is followed by South Carolina (147) in second place and Mississippi and Colorado (150) tied for third.

UH-Hilo names new AD

HILO » Hawaii-Hilo has named Dexter Irvin its new athletic director.

Irvin has been the AD at Dixie State College in St. George, Utah, for the past decade.

He succeeds Kathleen McNally. She served as athletic director from 2002 to 2008, when she was placed on paid administrative leave until her contract expired later that year.

McNally filed a $10 million lawsuit last month, accusing Hawaii-Hilo officials of discriminating against her based on race, gender and age.

 

Westmont soccer tips Hawaii-Hilo

Aolani Rueff scored two goals to lead Westmont College to a 2-1 victory over Hawaii-Hilo in women's soccer yesterday at Santa Barbara, Calif.

Lauren Minami had the lone goal for the Vulcans (0-3).

Westmont improved to 1-1.
