BEAUTY SPOT

M.A.C cosmetics inspire art piece

M.A.C Artists will be creating an art installation inspired by the M.A.C Make-up Art Cosmetics collection, from 1 p.m. tomorrow through Sunday in front of the Ala Moana Center's M.A.C boutique.

The cosmetics company joined forces with three renowned artists — photographer Marilyn Minter, illustrator Maira Kalman and painter Richard Phillips — to have them create exclusive works for the M.A.C Fall Colour Collection.

The event will feature two enormous tableaux: one with models body-painted to blend into the Phillips painting and one that brings Kalman's illustration to life. It will take nine makeup artists, working six to eight hours each day, to create the installation.

Three of M.A.C's senior artists — Jenn Karsten, Tiffany Johnston and John Stapleton — will discuss the artistic inspiration and techniques used.

In addition, six artists from the Oahu art community will be creating fine-art portraits of mall visitors that they will be able to take home, courtesy of M.A.C Cosmetics. The sittings will take place noon to 1 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday, and from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday on the mall's Centerstage.
