O'Brien a winner at Padang Padang

Hawaii's Jamie O'Brien surfed to victory in the Rip Curl Cup Invitational yesterday at Padang Padang in Bali.

O'Brien put on a tube-riding display in the clean, 6-foot surf to reach the final of the 32-man field, where he beat two-time Rip Curl Cup champion Made “;Bol”; Adi Putra.

O'Brien, who had not surfed in a contest in a month and a half, earned four perfect scores in the event, including two in the same heat during the second round.

O'Brien earned $2,000 for the win and plans to donate it to a Balinese charity, according to surfline.com.
