Kapiolani's newest watering hole introduces its Friday entertainment lineup, starting with an open-microphone session from 9 to 11 p.m. today. Local band TYM will follow from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Fronted by Jeff James, TYM will play reggae, hip-hop, jazz and blues tunes. Local artist Carol Tagawa will also be on hand to provide a visual element to the evening.

”;Hip-Hop at the Trops”;

Columbus, Ohio-based rapper Copywrite is the latest guest artist signed to perform at “;Hip-Hop at the Trops.”; One-half of the Ohio-based hip-hop crew Megahertz, Copywrite has gained notoriety in recent months for his lyrical attacks on rapper Asher Roth.

He'll be joined at Tropics by local openers Jackson Helm, Creed Chameleon, the Wingmen, Fat Soul and resident DJs Cozy, Un, Revise and Careless1; performances start at 9:30 p.m. today.

Looking for a new way to meet people? The Honolulu Design Center promises “;No pressure, no stress ... just good clean fun”; on Tuesday.

“;Net Play”; will turn the HDC into a playhouse of sorts, with board games and card games set up for 20-minute gaming sessions between 7 and 9 p.m. In addition, a Nintendo Wii will be available.

At least 12 different areas will be set up for people to meet and play; prize giveaways are also planned.

Manoa Marketplace's Thai Sweet Basil kicks off “;Taste,”; a new live-music showcase, next week with a performance by one of Honolulu's top jazz bands.

Bop Tribal (pictured) will play between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Thursday; cover is $5 during dinner service from 8 to 10 p.m. and $10 later. Bop Tribal will be joined by special guest Starr Kalahiki; DJ Kee will spin a mix of neo-soul, jazz, funk and hip-hop between sets.
