KanDoo! Island, a 148-foot steel catamaran that serves as a platform for 22 water activities, launched yesterday and anchored off Waikiki.

The official launch was delayed for a few weeks while the Coast Guard reviewed the vessel's seaworthiness after major modifications by the vessel's owner, KanDoo!

“;What we're doing has never been done before, so the Coast Guard wanted to be real sure, and so did we,”; said Robert Maynard, chief executive officer of KanDoo!, which has hired 253 employees. “;I feel nothing but optimism.”;

KanDoo! Island offers ocean activities including slides, trampolines, parasailing, “;underwater motorcycling,”; jet skis and snorkeling, as well as food and drink. It will anchor from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily offshore from the surf break in front of the Sheraton Waikiki. Shuttle boats head from Kewalo Basin to KanDoo! Island every 20 minutes.
