Homeless woman drowned

The Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman found Monday in a car submerged in waters off Laie Point as Sherry Ann Wood.

The 55-year-old woman was homeless. The medical examiner reported Wood died from saltwater drowning and determined her death was suicide.

Man arrested in accident

Police arrested a 34-year-old Hauula man on suspicion of first-degree negligent injury after his car struck and critically injured a 30-year-old man Monday night near the entrance to Kokololio Beach Park in Laie.

The man, a Laie resident, suffered a head wound and internal injuries, police said. He was taken in critical condition to the Queen's Medical Center.

Police said the motorist was driving a green 1996 Honda toward Kahuku at 8:34 p.m. when a pedestrian ran across Kamehameha Highway. The man was not in a crosswalk, police said.

The driver, who was also arrested for suspicion of driving without a license, was released later pending investigation.

Police said the woman was in a crosswalk when she was hit. The driver of the car did not see her, police said.
