Homeless woman drowned

The Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman found Monday in a car submerged in waters off Laie Point as Sherry Ann Wood.

The 55-year-old woman was homeless. The medical examiner reported Wood died from saltwater drowning and determined her death was suicide.

Man arrested in accident

Police arrested a 34-year-old Hauula man on suspicion of first-degree negligent injury after his car struck and critically injured a 30-year-old man Monday night near the entrance to Kokololio Beach Park in Laie.

The man, a Laie resident, suffered a head wound and internal injuries, police said. He was taken in critical condition to the Queen's Medical Center.

Police said the motorist was driving a green 1996 Honda toward Kahuku at 8:34 p.m. when a pedestrian ran across Kamehameha Highway. The man was not in a crosswalk, police said.

The driver, who was also arrested for suspicion of driving without a license, was released later pending investigation.

Woman injured in Mililani

A woman jogger who appeared to be in her 40s was critically injured yesterday when she was struck by a car at Meheula Parkway and Kuahelani Avenue in Mililani, emergency officials said.

Police said the woman was in a crosswalk when she was hit. The driver of the car did not see her, police said. Paramedics treated her, then took her to the Queen's Medical Center, Emergency Services Department spokesman Bryan Cheplic said. Police closed the southbound lanes of Meheula Parkway after the 5:31 p.m. accident.
