Bebi Davis, a physics and chemistry teacher at Farrington High School, was named one of 10 Pacific Teachers of the Year by the Pacific Resources for Education and Learning and its partners. She will attend the 26th annual Pacific Educational Conference July 15-17 at the University of Guam in Mangilao.

Hawaii Medical Center East received an award recognizing its commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of cardiac care for treatment of patients hospitalized with coronary artery disease.

The American Heart Association presented the hospital with a Get With The Guidelines—Coronary Artery Disease Gold Performance Achievement Award.

Two medical students from the University of Hawaii will join a monthlong eye care medical mission, sponsored and funded by the Hawaii Ophthalmological Society, to the island of Savai'i in Samoa this month. The team will distribute 800 free pairs of reading glasses and more than 1,000 sunglasses.

Logistical support was provided by Judge James Burns, president of the Friends of the John A. Burns School of Medicine, Tihati Thompson, and Hawaiian Airlines.

University of Hawaii at Manoa students Kendyll Doi, Kent Salcedo, Stacy Takeshita, and Megan Terawaki, are semi-finalists in the 2009 Walt Disney ImagiNations competition. The four teaching assistants of the UH's Information and Computer Sciences department designed a mobile device that would provide Disney park guests access to live data feeds on locations, wait times for rides, purchasing of memorabilia, and historical background. They began their work in August, and submitted their design in February.
