BEAUTY SPOT

Misters help keep you cool

I don't know about the places where you live or work, but the air-conditioning at our offices is less than perfect: When it's cold outside, it's too cold; when it's hot on the street, it konks out, causing us to sweat more than a deadline.

My solution is to keep at my desk a calming, refreshing facial mister that I can spray into the air over my head or in direct shots to face and neck in the afternoon when the air-conditioners seem to sputter out.

Some portable reliables include:

» Shu Uemura's Depsea Water Facial Mist in fragrance-free or light fragrances of mint, rose, lavender and bergamot, $24 at Neiman Marcus.

» Malie organic facial tonics from Kauai that renew and rescue you from wilting, in aromatherapy blends of Jasmine Rose, Ginger Sweet Lime and Lilikoi lemongrass, at $29.50 to about $41, available online at http://www.malie.com, at the Moana Lani Spa at the Moana Surfrider and Na Ho'ola Spa at the Hyatt Regency.

» Aura Cacia Aromatherapy Mist in relaxing or energizing scents of cinnamon/ylang ylang, lavender, ginger mint or patchouli/sweet orange. It's $7.49 at Down to Earth and greener than turning on the air con.

If you're pinching pennies, filling a spritz bottle with water will also do the trick.
