Resort offers deal for triathlon

The Keauhou Beach Resort will host the first Lavaman Keauhou Triathlon on Sept. 13 and is offering special room rates and other goodies as added enticements for triathletes and their fans. The rate is $109 for single/double occupancy and includes a complimentary self-service breakfast buffet each morning.

The Lavaman Keauhou Expo will include sport products, sponsor booths and race day packets. The event will kick off Sept. 12 with special events and a LavaKids Dash for keiki 7 and under.

Hawaii Sports Connection is presenting this new Olympic distance triathlon and invites elite triathletes, age groupers of all levels and relay teams to participate. The two-lap course through Keauhou Resort will include a 1.5k swim, 40k bike ride and 10k run.

Festival focuses on marvels of Pele

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park's 29th Annual Cultural Festival is set from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 11. This year's theme is “;E Ola ka Wahine o Halemaumau”; (”;Pele lives”;). Halemaumau crater, which has been in eruption since March 2008, is the sacred home of Pele, deity of volcanoes.

Festival visitors can taste traditional area foods such as kalua pig, taro, sweet potato, poi, sugar cane and breadfruit. Skilled practitioners will demonstrate numerous trades, including woodcarving, canoe building and lomilomi massage. Turtle Bay has new rates for golfers

Turtle Bay Resort has set new rates and programs for kamaaina golfers of all ages.

Residents will now be able to walk the Fazio Course for $35 weekdays and $40 on weekends. Kamaaina walking rates drop to $15 after 3 p.m. daily. For those 10-18 years old, a new Turtle Bay Junior Golf Membership allows juniors unlimited access to walk the Fazio course seven days a week and other benefits for an annual $250 fee.
