Homeless man, 18, found with stolen car is charged

An 18-year-old homeless man whose mother identified him to police as the man who was shown robbing a bank in a news photo was charged yesterday with another crime.

Dakota M.A. Williams, who was allegedly caught driving a stolen car Wednesday in Kaneohe, was charged yesterday with unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.

Police said Williams' mother called police while he was being booked for driving the stolen car and said she recognized him from a newspaper article featuring a still photo taken from video surveillance of a bank robbery at the Kalihi branch of Bank of Hawaii.

Williams was arrested yesterday on suspicion of second-degree robbery in that case.

His bail is set at $20,000.
