Kahala nursing home employee charged with sexual assault

An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment yesterday charging a former employee of a Kahala nursing home with sexually assaulting four elderly female residents.

The indictment charges certified nursing assistant Mark Allen S. Genetiano, 24, with six counts of sexual assault in the third degree. The charges specify that the victims are mentally defective, mentally incapacitated or physically helpless.

The alleged victims range in age from 89 to 92 and are in various stages of dementia, said Scott Spallina, deputy prosecutor.

“;Each time he would basically remove their upper clothing and fondle their breasts and squeeze their nipples,”; Spallina said, “;After each time he did this—and this was observed by other co-workers of the facility—he laughed despite the reactions, which were either 'Get away,' or in one case we had a victim actually try to spit at the defendant.”;

Public input is invited on Kauai landfill

Public comment is invited on a permit application on the continued use of the Kekaha Landfill phase two.

The permit would allow Kauai County and Waste Management of Hawaii Inc. to operate the landfill until August 2014 or until its permitted capacity is reached, whichever comes first, according to a news release from the Kauai County Department of Public Works.

A public hearing will be held Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Waimea Neighborhood Center at 4556 Makeke Road.
