The Blood Bank of Hawaii has teamed up with Baskin-Robbins Hawaii to increase awareness of the need for blood and encourage donations this summer.

“;Keeping the blood supply at a safe level during the summer is quite challenging because schools are out and many people go on vacation,”; Wendy Abe, the Blood Bank's chief operating officer, said in a news release.

During the Blood Bank's “;Give a Pint, Get a Pint”; promotion, donors who give at designated drives will get a coupon that can be redeemed at participating stores. Oahu, Kona, Hilo and Maui donors will receive a Baskin-Robbins Hawaii coupon good for a pint of ice cream.

Each blood donation can save the lives of up to three people because it is separated into red blood cells, platelets and plasma.

To qualify as a donor, a person must be in good health, 18 or older or 17 with a signed Blood Bank of Hawaii parent or legal guardian consent form, weigh 110 pounds or more and have a valid photo ID with date of birth.
