Lifeguards were expecting to be busy again today with high surf on south and west shores, authorities said.

Emergency Services Department spokesman Bryan Cheplic said the high surf came in early and wasn't expected until today.

“;I don't have an exact number (on rescues yesterday) but I can tell you it was busy,”; he added.

Surf today along south shores is expected to be 6 to 9 feet, with waves of 4 to 6 feet along west- facing shores, according to the National Weather Service, which has issued a high surf advisory.

A series of south and southeast swells is expected to keep the surf elevated throughout the week, the weather service said.
