Honolulu's biannual marathon of metal, better known as Metalfest, returns to Anna Bannana's this weekend for a full day of all-ages mayhem.

Local promoters Underworld Events—who also happen to make up most of the band Corrupt Absolute—host the festival, now in its eighth incarnation since starting in 2005. Part showcase and part jam session, Metalfest pairs the two stages on each floor at Anna's with an outdoor stage to provide more than three dozen local bands with a chance to play.

In addition to musicians who will descend upon Moiliili from three islands, Metalfest will also welcome California's the Warriors as this year's headline act. The Oxnard-based metal quintet claims to tour more than 300 days out of the year and has opened for the likes of Evergreen Terrace, Tiger Army, Throwdown and even rapper DMX.

“;One thing that people forgot about in hardcore today is (the) genuine sense of outrage,”; says Warriors lead singer Marshall Lichtenwaldt in the band's bio. “;I'm not about bringing back nostalgia, but most people today treat hardcore like a casual scene and it's not about how pretty you make your hair, it's about music for a reason, from the heart and from the head.”;

With such strong opinions, it's no surprise the latest album by the Warriors was titled “;Genuine Sense of Outrage.”; Lichtenwaldt also promises that the band will deliver a full-powered performance, even at a smaller venue like Anna Bannana's.

“;We're psyched to play our songs for ourselves,”; he said. “;We're gonna give as much energy playing a small show as we would if we were playing an arena.”;
