Kuo will stay on Wade's staff

New Hawaii men's volleyball head coach Charlie Wade has begun to build his staff by working with what is already there. UH announced yesterday that Mason Kuo will remain on staff as assistant coach.

Kuo finished his second season as a full-time coach under now-retired Mike Wilton this spring.

“;Mason is a quality guy who is well respected,”; Wade said. “;It's easy for me to recognize the positive contributions that Mason has made to the program's success. I'm looking forward to working with him and having him contribute to our continual success.”;

Kuo lettered for the Warriors from 1995-99. He led the team in assists his junior and senior seasons and was part of the Warriors' 1996 squad that was the NCAA national runner-up. He graduated in 1994 from McKinley High School.

Marathon early entries top '08
The Honolulu Marathon accepted 4,802 local entries during an eight-day special early registration period that ended Sunday.

It is about 1,400 more than during a similar period last year.

This year's race is Dec. 13. Local entrants can register now for $85 until Oct. 30, when the fee goes up to $115.

English freshman joins HPU golf

Matthew Tweddell of Herefordshire, England, has signed to play golf at Hawaii Pacific, the school announced yesterday.

Tweddell comes in as a freshman, joining a team that loses just one player to graduation.
