Young artists honor the humpback

Winners have been announced in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary children's art contest.

More than 570 pieces of art, poems and short stories were reviewed by judges who work in the area of marine conservation, in recognition of Humpback Whale Awareness Month.

Winners in the art category were split into five divisions; poetry had two divisions, and short stories were accepted from students in all grade levels.

All entrants became members of the “;Ocean Guardian Kids Club.”; Winning students also won prizes from Oceanic, the Hanauma Bay Gift shop, Waikiki Aquarium and the sanctuary.
