McDonald's Restaurants of Hawaii awarded $25,000 in scholarships to its 10 top student employees statewide: McDonald's of Waipahu — Ria April Abara of Campbell High School; Ala Moana — Eleanor Balintona, Farrington High School; Keeaumoku — Priya Flor Buyacao, Farrington; Wal-Mart Mililani — Merry Collado, Pearl City High School; Wailuku Town Center — Shiela Maureen Galapon, Baldwin High School; Mililani — Kayla Kawamata, Mililani High School; Prince Kuhio — Reejay Martinez, Keaau High School; School Street — Mark Rubia; Waipahu High School; Pearl City — Angelica Simpliciano, Waipahu; and Waipio — Kristy Suefuji, Pearl City.

The state Department of Health recognized six schools for their high levels of participation in the statewide, school-based influenza immunization program, Protect Hawaii's Keiki: Stop Flu at School. They are Iolani School, Kapalama Elementary School, Ke Kula O Nawahiokalaniopuu Iki Lab Public Charter, Kualapuu Elementary New Century Public Charter, Mililani Middle School, and St. Michael's School.
