Ua ho'okohu 'ia 'o Curtis Iaukea ma nā kūlana like 'ole he nui ma ke Aupuni Mō'ī, he iwakālua ka nui, mai ka MH 1878 a hiki i ka ho'okahuli 'ia 'ana o ke Aupuni i ka 1893. 'O kekahi o kāna mau hana, he kāpena o ka Pū'ali Koa 'Ae Hana o ka 'Ohana Ali'i, he Kuhina Kūikawā no ke Aupuni Mō'ī i nā aupuni like 'ole, he 'ohi 'auhau, a he Komikina ho'i o nā 'Āina Kalaunu. He huaka'i 'o ia i nā 'āina like 'ole he nui ma kona 'ao'ao he kuhina o ke Aupuni a kākau 'o ia e pili ana i kona mau huaka'i 'ana.

'O Sydney Iaukea kāna mo'opuna wahine kualua i puka me kona palapala PhD ma ke Kulanui o Hawai'i ma Mānoa. Noi'i 'o ia i nā hana a kona kupuna. He aloha ali'i a aloha 'āina 'o Curtis Iaukea a hiki i kona make 'ana i ka 1940 a kākau 'o ia i kekahi puke no ka ho'okumu 'ia 'ana o ka Ho'oilina Waiwai o ka Mō'ī Wahine 'o Lili'uokalani.

Hō'ike 'o Curtis, i ka wā i kā'ili ai 'o 'Amelika i ka pae'āina nei i ka 1900 a kāhea akula i ia mea he “kelikoli”, ua ho'ohui pū ia aupuni i nā 'āina i 'ona 'ia e ka Mō'ī Wahine me nā 'āina o ke aupuni o ke Aupuni Mō'ī a kapa akula i ia mau mea 'o “Ka 'Āina o ka Lehulehu”. 'O ia ka mea i kapa 'ia ma hope 'o “Nā 'Āina i Ho'ohui 'ia”.

I ka 1909, ua ho'opi'i aku 'o Lili'uokalani i ke Aupuni Kelikoli me ka paio aku i kona mana'o 'a'ohe wahi ho'ohui 'ia o nā 'āina o nā ali'i me nā 'āina aupuni ma ke Kānāwai 'Āina Kalaunu o ka 1865. I ke kā'ili 'ana o 'Amelika i ia mau 'āina, ho'ohana 'ia ia mau mea no ke kūkulu 'ana i nā pu'ukaua 'Amelika, nā pāka aupuni, a me nā ululā'au ho'omalu 'ia. Ua kōkua nā 'ao'ao kālai'āina a pau 'ekolu o ia manawa, 'o ka 'Ao'ao Kemokalaka, Lepupalika, a me ka Home Lula, i ka 'ao'ao o Lili'uokalani, akā, hā'ule ka 'ao'ao o ka Mō'ī Wahine ma ka 'aha ho'okolokolo.

Ma ke kā'ili 'ana i nā 'āina o ke Aupuni a me nā ali'i, ho'ololi 'ia nā inoa a me nā mo'olelo o ia mau 'āina a ho'opili 'ia nā inoa a me nā mo'olelo o kekahi 'āina 'ē ma luna o ia mau mea. Ma ke a'o 'ole 'ana i ka lehulehu i nā inoa a me nā mo'olelo kumu o ka 'āina, ua hele a poina ka lehulehu i nā mea i hana 'ia ma mua o ka wā i loli ai. I kēia wā 'imi na'auao, hu'e hou 'ia kēia mau mo'olelo i ke ao mālamalama.

Hō'ike 'o Sydney Iaukea no ka holoi 'ia o ka mo'olelo o ka pae'āina nei e 'Amelika a nalo loa i mea e nānā 'ia ai kona 'ākena, 'o ka Moku'āina 'o Hawai'i, he aupuni kūpono. Na ka 'Aha'ōlelo o Wākinekona i ho'oholo i ke 'ano o ia mea he 'ōiwi Hawai'i ma ke Kānāwai 'Āina Ho'opulapula Hawai'i a ua minamina loa 'o Curtis Iaukea i ia mea. Na nā pua e koe nei e hu'e hou i ka 'oia'i'o i naue ka lehulehu ma kahi o ka 'oia'i'o.
