Lorens Chan of 'Iolani shot 2-under-par 69 yesterday to take the first-round lead at the David S. Ishii Foundation/HHSAA Boys Golf Championship at the Royal Kaanapali Golf Course on Maui.

Chan shot 34 on the front nine and 35 on the back and leads Punahou's Bradley Shigezawa, Kauai's Cory Oride and Kamehameha-Maui's Aaron Kunitomo by two strokes going into today's final round. That foursome will make up the tournament's final group, which tees off at 11:20 a.m.

'Iolani, seeking its first state championship since 1991, placed three golfers in the top 13 to lead the team standings with an aggregate score of 299. While Chan led the Raiders yesterday, David Fink shot a 74 to tie for eighth place, one stroke ahead of teammate Reo Saito.

Waiakea is second at 310, followed by defending champion Punahou at 311.
