Woman sexually assaulted and robbed in Kapolei

Police are looking for a man who offered a 21-year-old woman a ride and took her to a Kapolei residential area where he allegedly sexually assaulted her and then fled with her purse, police said.

The attack occurred at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police have opened a first-degree sexual assault case.

Big isle man is arrested in alleged intruder's death

A 44-year-old man shot to death in a home in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision in Kau on Wednesday night has been identified as 44-year-old Larry Kuahuia of Milolii.

Patrol officers responded to a 10:33 p.m. report of a shooting at a Koa Lane home and found the victim on the street.

A 47-year-old Koa Lane homeowner discovered an intruder on his property approaching a greenhouse where he was growing marijuana plants, police said.

The homeowner shot at the intruder at least twice with a 12-gauge shotgun, according to police.

Kuahuia ran off the property but succumbed to his wounds on Koa Lane, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police recovered a shotgun and arrested the homeowner on suspicion of murder. He is being held at the Kona police cellblock while detectives continue the investigation.

An autopsy is being scheduled to determine the cause of death.

Police seek suspects who stole water catchment tank

Big Island police are looking for a stolen 20,000-gallon galvanized water catchment tank.

The tank was disassembled sometime between April 25 and Sunday and taken from an area where native plants were being grown in Kaawalii in the North Hilo District, police said. The tank's liner was left behind.

The project was under the operation of the Laupahoehoe Train Museum/Ookala Community Forest.
