Top seeds swing into action today

After having byes in yesterday's first round, the top seeds in the Carlsmith Ball/HHSAA State Tennis Championships hit the court today at Central Oahu Regional Park.

Island Pacific's Matthew Westmoreland is the top seed in the boys singles draw and faces Jackson Britt of Lahainaluna, who advanced by default over Roosevelt's Tomoki Imai yesterday. Second-seeded Jared Spiker of Kalani will play Hunter Lee of St. Joseph.

Punahou's Kristin Lim, the two-time defending girls singles champion, opens against Shay Orial of Kauai. Orial defeated Yolette Quach of McKinley 6-4, 7-5 in the opening round. Mililani's Taylor Oyama defeated Aleina Tanabe of Kalaheo 6-1, 6-0 to face second-seeded Jackie Owens of Lahainaluna.

Punahou's Erik Pang and Hiroshi Hikida top the boys doubles draw, and meet Hawaii Prep's Michael Monahan and Ryota Yokose today.

Ashley Nakaoka and Jennifer Laws of Punahou are atop the girls doubles bracket and face Kari Noborikawa and Kelsey Kusunoki of Kaiser today. Noborikawa and Kusunoki defeated Hiilani Aiona and Treya Smith of Hana 6-3, 6-3 yesterday.
