Learn, don't burn

With the recent spate of house fires, including a deadly fire early Thursday in Makiki, don't wait for Fire Prevention Week to plan for fire safety.

Do you have a plan for escape? Are your smoke alarms installed and working? Are extinguishers handy?

UH women volleyballers are aces

Congratulations to the University of Hawaii women's volleyball team, which scored a perfect Academic Progress Rate for the third year in a row.

Kudos, too, to the Rainbow Wahine coaches, for fostering a team spirit that values success in the classroom, as well as on the court.

In today's bad economy, it seems that more and more vehicle corporations are offering incentives to help out folks.

Some, for instance, are running ads assuring prospective buyers that in the event of job loss, their monthly car payments would be covered, some even up to a year.

Great ... but wait. Let's hope the companies stay solid, and don't fall in need of a bailout themselves.
